To call TuneUp Utilities 2009 useful would drastically understate the situation. The app provides users with a powerful, well-designed utility that accesses the entire Windows maintenance tool set and more in a fast, organized, and easy-to-use series of connected modules.
Temp file management, registry cleaners and start-up program controls are the bread-and-butter of these utilities, and these basics work in TuneUp more quickly and easily than most. However, the app also sports great add-on tools you don’t usually see in a utility program. It offers a variety of Internet and program-acceleration tweaks as well as Windows performance enhancers. The crash-preventing MemOptimizer, a file shredder, deleted file recovery, and a respectable uninstall utility round out the suite. You even can automate maintenance tasks with the scheduler or tweak Windows’ appearance with the styler tool. The built-in RescueCenter can restore all changes completely or one by one.

If you want to keep your PC running as smoothly as the very first day you switched it on, you’ve got two options: either you download a dozen different system optimization tools or you just use TuneUp Utilities 2010, a an excellent application that has turned into an essential maintenance toolkit for your PC.
The new version of TuneUp Utilities brings many exciting new features that make the program even more powerful, but still easy enough to use for the average user. It includes not only a redesigned interface but also a bunch of new utilities (Live Optimization, Turbo Mode, Optimization Report) with which you can easily tweak your system and remain in control of all the changes the program applies to it.
When launching TuneUp Utilities 2010 ? and immediately after the ‘traditional’ trial version reminder ? you access the program’s new interface, designed in a very clean, almost minimalist style. This window contains the program’s four main areas: Maintain system, Increase performance, Fix problems and Customize Windows. Each of them displays an icon to indicate the system’s status in that particular area: green arrow for optimized, yellow sign to require user intervention. Like I said, it’s all very clean and minimalist; all the extra options are hidden in drop-down menus you can open by clicking the "All functions" link at the bottom of each section.
Among these options, you’ll find tools to optimize system startup, defragment the hard drive, clean Windows Registry from broken keys, restore accidentally delete files, check your hard drive for errors, modify Windows hidden settings and customize Windows appearance with the so called TuneUp Styler, to name a few. Other interesting utilities in TuneUp Utilities 2010 are a file shredded, a complete system report generator and the excellent ‘1-Click Maintenance’ tool that lets you analyze and fix a wide range of issues in one click.
TuneUp Utilities 2010 also includes new features that make the program even more useful. Some of these innovations include the Turbo Mode, which disables all unwanted background programs and services to ensure individual programs run smoothly; the Live Optimization utility, which improves computer’s performance right on the spot, as soon as needed; and the Optimization Report, which lets you review changes applied to the system over the past week, month or since installation.
Summing up, the new TuneUp Utilites 2010 remains an excellent optimization suite, with a wide selection of powerful tools, yet easy enough for everyone to use. The only thing that surprised me was the lack of special Windows 7 features. The program is embedded with Windows Explorer and also includes a special gadget, but somehow I expected more integration with Windows 7. Jump lists would have been nice!
TuneUp Utilities gathers pretty much all the maintenance and optimization tools you need into one efficient, easy-to-use application. You couldn’t ask for more.
